ROOTS.

The Sunflower Girl Collective (TSGC) began in 2018 as an online femme/gnc artist collective and digital media platform. The Sunflower Girl Collective is refuge from the patriarchal gaze.
bell hooks defines patriarchy as “a political-social system that insists that men are inherently dominating, superior to everything and everyone deemed weak, especially women, and endowed with the right to dominate and rule over the weak and to maintain that dominance through various forms of psychological terrorism and violence.”
In order to protect the space, we uphold 10 major Sunflower Girl Values, as seen at the top of this page. We uphold these values as current and future matriarchs. Each class of new sunflowerfolk bring a new layer of understanding to these values every year.

Starting in 2019, The Sunflower Girl Collective launched their very own podcast on Anchor and Google Podcasts. The podcast aims to go in depth on the identity of the women of color artist and what it means to stay authentic in a constantly shifting world. We will highlight the bad ass female artistry and genius that too often falls through the cracks. Visit our Anchor page to hear some poems already and stay tuned!
